Prazer Vacui. Reconnecting with Ancestral Calm.
It is with great pleasure that Oficina Impossível hosts the solo exhibition of Claudia Carreño, a Chilean artist living in Portugal since 2021, thus reinforcing our gallery’s ongoing connection with artists from Latin America.
Claudia Carreño’s work brings a serenity that has become rare today, yet one we deeply need. In an accelerated, digital and urban world — where we live increasingly buried under the lack of time, where communication happens mostly through the internet and social media, and where cities grow into mega‑structures that absorb all vital space — it becomes urgent to stop. To breathe. To think. To feel. To find the calm of the cosmic rhythm, to allow bodies to meet, to reconnect with nature. Ultimately, it becomes urgent to attune ourselves to the ancestral future proclaimed by the Indigenous leader Ailton Krenak.
This reconnection with ancestral calm and care for nature is precisely what Claudia Carreño’s exhibition Prazer Vacui offers. Her paintings — often created on reused materials such as drawers — recreate time‑spaces of leisure, peace and beauty that belong to a model of life that is almost utopian, yet absolutely essential: the vita contemplativa.
