Maio, maduro maio, quem te pintou?

25 May – 31 July 2024

A group exhibition celebrating the arrival of summer through works inspired by the light, colour, and energy of May in Lisbon.

Maio, maduro maio, quem te pintou? — "May, ripe May, who painted you?" — takes its title from a traditional Portuguese expression celebrating the beauty of late spring. This collective exhibition brought together works by several artists associated with Oficina Impossível, each responding to the theme of seasonal transformation.

The exhibition featured painting, drawing, and mixed media works that captured the particular quality of Lisbon's May light — warm, golden, and full of promise. The gallery space became a celebration of colour and vitality, reflecting the energy of the city as it moves from spring into summer.

Running through the height of summer, the exhibition was one of the gallery's longest-running shows, allowing visitors to return and discover new details in the works over time.
