Jacky Cavallari
Biography Trained in marquetry at the École Boulle in Paris and holding a degree in Art History and Archaeology from Paris 1 – Sorbonne, Jacky Cavallari established himself professionally as a cabinetmaker and marquetry artist. After completing his studies in France, he moved to Brazil, where he opened his studio. In 2018, he relocated to Portugal and founded his workshop. This international trajectory has allowed him to deepen his understanding of the textures, tonalities and expressive potential of wood.
Artistic statement "With remarkable mastery, Jacky Cavallari elevates marquetry to the realm of art, far beyond its usual association with craftsmanship. Standing before his work, one perceives how his practice is a poiesis shaped by a highly skilled hand, tirelessly repeating an expert gesture. The imposing panel, composed of 42 pieces of natural American walnut and tulipwood dyed black and blue, stands as a true feat of inlay work, where meticulous detail is guided by the desire to bring together the two cultures that meet in this exhibition: the Francophone and the Lusophone."
